The Seed

Most ideas are not born with a light bulb above my head, but conceived as more of a melt of hundreds of ideas. Derivative believes that nothing in this world is original, everything is a derivative of something else. One giant strand of design dna that sparks hundreds of other ideas. The influence of Matisse's Joy of Life painting is evident in other famous artists like Picasso. This brings up the question- what else did this painting influence, inspire? Has this painting inspired an child that went on to become a video game developer, who then creates a video game that was subconsciously influenced by this painting he saw on a wall.  We can never truly quantify the effects that it has had in this world, but it begins to show how deep an idea can go.

This sketch is the idea that started it all.  A bagpack that becomes your companion on your everyday journey. A bag that will last you a lifetime if you care to have it for that long. Like most of my designs they start like this, with a pencils and paper, and of course a cup of coffee.

This time around I am in the process of completing a contract for the leather patches of a denim company. I will post up some updates next week.
